GREENLIGHT: Generating Renewable Energy Education Network Leading Initiatives for Green & Harmonious Tomorrows
The motivation for this project arises from the urgent need to confront the critical global challenges of securing safe and sustainable energy while addressing human-induced climate change. Current reliance on finite fossil fuels has inflicted irreversible consequences on the planet's climate and environment, necessitating immediate action to revolutionize how energy is produced and consumed.
At the heart of this project is a commitment to energy literacy, particularly among students aged 15-17, who are soon to step into society as independent and responsible citizens. By using interdisciplinary approaches, the project bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering a generation that actively embraces clean energy solutions. This age group has been selected with the understanding that these young individuals are at a formative stage in developing their autonomy and civic responsibility.
The project’s priorities align with the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goal 7, which advocates for universal access to affordable, reliable, and clean energy. Climate change respects no borders, making it essential for young people to grasp the implications of this global challenge, as they will inherit the future world. Born in the digital era, these students seek engaging and innovative content, and the project incorporates this aspect through transnational virtual activities and interactive digital materials that capture their interest.
This project’s transformative power lies in its potential to shape behaviors, both cognitively and attitudinally. By integrating field trips, STEM-based scenarios, and blended learning, energy literacy becomes a natural part of students’ lives both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, the project embodies the spirit of Erasmus+, encouraging collaboration and intercultural understanding, bringing together diverse communities in a shared purpose.
