GREENLIGHT Tree-Planting Action at Nikola Karev

DSU-RCSOO Nikola Karev Strumica participated in a tree-planting activity in cooperation with the Red Cross and the Firefighting Brigade, encouraging students to contribute to greener surroundings and promoting environmental responsibility, biodiversity and community cooperation.

As part of the GREENLIGHT – Generating Renewable Energy Education Network: Leading Initiatives for Green & Harmonious Tomorrows project, DSU-RCSOO Nikola Karev Strumica, North Macedonia, participated in a tree-planting activity organised in cooperation with the Red Cross and the Firefighting Brigade.

The activity brought together the school community and local organisations around a shared environmental objective: contributing to greener surroundings while encouraging young people to take an active role in protecting and improving their local environment.

Through their participation in planting trees, students experienced sustainability as a practical and community-based responsibility. The activity provided an opportunity to connect environmental education with direct action and to reinforce awareness of the importance of green spaces, biodiversity, climate responsibility and long-term care for the natural environment.

The cooperation with the Red Cross and the Firefighting Brigade also demonstrated the importance of collaboration between schools and local community organisations in promoting environmental awareness and responsible citizenship. By working alongside institutions that play important roles in community welfare and public safety, students were able to experience sustainability as a shared social responsibility extending beyond the school itself.

The initiative is closely aligned with the GREENLIGHT Green Management and Environmental Implementation approach, which encourages project partners to complement renewable-energy and sustainability education with practical voluntary environmental actions.

Tree planting is particularly relevant to GREENLIGHT’s wider sustainability objectives because it combines environmental awareness with visible local action and encourages participants to develop a stronger sense of stewardship towards their surroundings.

This collaborative activity therefore represents another practical contribution by DSU-RCSOO Nikola Karev Strumica to GREENLIGHT’s environmental and community-engagement objectives. It also illustrates how partnerships between schools, civil-society organisations and local public services can help build a broader culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
